History, Missions, Organization, and Introduction of the Center
Chiayi English Teaching Resource Center has been established at Shiuan-Shin Elementary School since 2011, and started running in the first semester of 2012. Principal Zhao Ji-Wei was the first director of the center. Later on, the school director took on the center director position as well. After the resource center was established, Chiayi Junior High School English Tutoring Group (Lantang Public Junior High School), Elementary School English Tutoring Group (Shixian Elementary School), Sing-Chia English Academy, and Minzu English Academy formed as an organization to promote English. This became a city-wide organization to promote English teaching effectiveness in Chiayi City.
On August 1st, 2021, the central government subsidized funds to require county and city governments to set up a dedicated English Teaching Resource Center (ETRC). This was due to the 2030 Bilingual Education Policy.
ETRC has a dedcatied staff that includes the center director and the center assistant. They are working wholeheartedly to promote Bilingual / English Education.
Currently, Principal Huang Jun-Mu is working as the executive director, Zheng Wan-Yu as the center director, and Huang Yu-Lun as an assistant director.
The five important goals for Chiayi English Teaching Resource Center are as follows:
1. Integrate resources: Promote english speaking ability
2. Hire foreign teachers: Refine/improve the ability of teaching bilingual education.
3. Connect the team: Stimulate growth of the educational profession
4. Build a network platform: Effectively broadcast and share information
5. Provide consultation: Establish/connect sister schools abroad
The goal of bilingual education is to allow students to use all learned languages as they live out their daily lives. Also, students will better understand different cultures and respect the differences. ETRC is a contact window that connects people, plans, resources, courses and teaching. ETRC expects to not only promote basic communication, but to implement bilingual education and cultivate global communication.
In addition, we combined international courses in order to expand students’ global perspectives. Thus, we not only enhance international competitive power but we also connect Chiayi City to the world.
