2026/10/21 Sing-an Elementary School - Teacher Derek
Course Topic: What can you do at Hinoki Village?
Centered on the theme "Hinoki Village," Teacher Derek integrated real-life example sentences to deepen learning impressions while simultaneously reinforcing both oral pronunciation and written practice. During an exciting small-group speed competition, students wrote target words on mini-whiteboards and raised them to answer, efficiently mastering key vocabulary. Teacher Derek placed strong emphasis on pronunciation quality, guiding students to master phonics rules and natural rhythm by breaking words down syllable by syllable. Even for longer, more challenging vocabulary (e.g., interesting), students successfully tackled the words step-by-step, gaining a strong sense of achievement.
In terms of sentence structure application, Teacher Derek engaged students in close interaction through situational Q&A (e.g., "I am near the entrance." and "Is Teacher Derek near the entrance?"), helping them flexibly apply key patterns. Subsequently, students were invited on stage for interactive fill-in-the-blank activities to solidify vocabulary review. Through hands-on practice and contextual analysis, students not only accurately grasped word meanings but also gained a deeper understanding of practical usage. In the latter part of the lesson, Teacher Derek played a topic-related video and led group discussions. By observing sequence details, cultural experiences, and spot features, students conducted oral presentations and Q&A, effectively enhancing their listening comprehension and spoken communication skills.
Today, we were honored to welcome Professor Ya-Chin Tsai for guidance. Professor Tsai commended Teacher Derek for his outstanding classroom management and welcoming learning atmosphere. Regarding instructional optimization, Professor Tsai suggested replaying videos to leverage students' observational learning abilities, thereby maximizing learning outcomes. Additionally, she recommended increasing time for student independent practice to allow the teacher to more precisely evaluate individual learning progress. Overall, Professor Tsai provided highly positive feedback on Teacher Derek's teaching and looks forward to seeing further refined instructional details for even greater classroom success.
