Professor Observation and Evaluation
At the beginning of the lesson, the teacher played a video filmed at the Chiayi University Insect Museum to introduce the topic of the day: “Proper Behavior in a Museum.” Through situational guidance, students learned to distinguish between appropriate (“To Do”) and inappropriate (“Not To Do”) behaviors in a museum setting, while also acquiring related vocabulary such as shout, eat, walk slowly, and look quietly.
Next, the teacher guided students in practicing sentence patterns:
“You should ____ in the museum.”
“You should not ____ in the museum.”
Students then worked in pairs to complete a picture card sorting activity, classifying behaviors shown on the cards while practicing dialogues with their partners. This hands-on activity helped reinforce learning and increased student engagement.
The lesson concluded with a fun and interactive “Museum Police” role-play activity. One student acted as the police officer, while three others played visitors. The visitors performed actions based on the picture cards they drew. When inappropriate behavior occurred, the police officer was required to respond immediately using the target sentence patterns. For example:
👮 Stop! You should not run in the museum.
👧🏻 I’m sorry, I should not run in the museum.
Through this series of interactive activities, students practiced their English speaking skills in a lively and engaging environment. At the same time, they internalized proper museum etiquette and further developed their sense of civic responsibility.
