The lesson focused on the topic “What did you do last week?”, guiding students to learn how to ask and answer questions in the past tense.
At the beginning of the class, students were introduced to common past tense verbs such as watched videos, visited a friend, cleaned my room, and did my homework. Through whole-class interactive activities, students practiced choosing the correct past tense forms from given options.
Next, the lesson moved on to practicing vowel combinations, including ea, ee, ai, ay, ue, and ui. Students worked on pronunciation using words like beat, meet, fail, pane, pay, cute, flute, mule, and suit, helping them understand different phonics patterns and improve their decoding and pronunciation skills.
In the second half of the class, students participated in a group-based Kahoot listening challenge. The teacher read aloud words, and students identified and selected the correctly pronounced ones. This was followed by speaking practice, where students repeatedly used past tense sentence structures, while also incorporating present tense to increase the level of challenge and flexibility.
Overall, the lesson integrated vocabulary, phonics, and interactive activities, creating a fun and engaging learning environment that naturally enhanced students’ English proficiency.
