The lesson topic was “Insects.” At the beginning of the class, the teacher used various insect models as teaching aids to engage students. Through guiding questions such as “What do you think it is?” and “Is it an insect?”, students were encouraged to observe and think critically. The teacher then introduced images of a snake and a beetle to help students compare and discuss the characteristics of insects.
Through teacher-student interaction, students learned that insects have three key features: six legs, a body, and antennae. By observing images and responding to questions, students gradually developed a basic understanding of what defines an insect.
In the vocabulary teaching section, the teacher introduced several insect words, including butterfly, dragonfly, stick insect, beetle, and ladybug. For each new word, the teacher consistently reviewed the key insect characteristics and guided students through questioning and repetition activities. This helped students connect new vocabulary with the concept of insects and strengthened their understanding and retention.
After vocabulary instruction, students participated in an Insect Flip Cards game. In groups, students matched picture cards with word cards to review the vocabulary learned in the lesson. During the activity, students actively engaged in discussion and collaboration, which increased their motivation and reinforced their learning.
In the final stage of the lesson, students completed a speaking activity using the following sentence structures:
Each group presented their assigned insect in front of the class. This activity not only allowed students to practice insect-related vocabulary but also enabled them to construct complete sentences to describe insect features. Overall, the lesson was well-structured and scaffolded, progressing from concept introduction to vocabulary learning and finally to oral production. Students demonstrated high engagement and achieved positive learning outcomes.
