Lesson: The NCYU Insect Museum
When students walked into the classroom, their attention was immediately drawn to the wide variety of insect pictures on the walls and windows—Today Ms. Cheska was going to introduce “The NCYU Insect Museum”! The NCYU Insect Museum is located in the Chiayi City, houses a diverse collection of insect specimens, features a greenhouse garden, and even offers hands-on insect activities on weekends, making it a favorite spot for both kids and adults.
At the beginning of the lesson, students observed the insect pictures around the classroom and named the ones they recognized. They then watched a video introducing the Insect Museum to learn about its unique features and exhibits. After the video, the teacher led the class in learning related English vocabulary and practiced sentence reordering to deepen their language skills.
Today's lesson plan included two activities:
Activity 1: Who Said It?
The teacher had a group competition in which students searched for specific sentences within a dialogue. This activity helped develop their reading and scanning skills while boosting engagement and concentration.
Activity 2: Picture Matching
Based on the teacher’s descriptions, students selected the correct insect or location picture from multiple options and placed it in the corresponding spot. This activity primarily focused on listening comprehension.
