Today's Lesson Theme: My Koji Pottery (Gallery Walk)

Continuing from last week’s lesson, Ms. Wynne introduced students to Koji Pottery, a traditional art form from Chiayi, and guided them to create their own mini artworks using air-dry clay, each inspired by Chiayi’s local culture. This week, Ms. Wynne took things a step further—using art as a medium to seamlessly integrate sentence pattern practice and writing activities, creating an English learning journey that blended language with art appreciation.

To start the lesson, students worked on a puzzle activity to review the features and cultural background of Koji Pottery. Then, they practiced using the sentence pattern:
💬 “It’s a/an ____. It’s a popular art in Chiayi City.”
This helped reinforce their understanding of the structure while encouraging them to describe various traditional crafts from Chiayi in English.

During the Gallery Walk, Ms. Wynne set up a group exhibition of the students’ clay artworks from last week. Students then took on the role of young art critics and wrote in English:
✔️ What’s your favourite artwork?
✔️ Who made it?
✔️ Why do you like it? (Give two reasons!)

Through this creative and interactive activity, students not only practiced describing and appreciating artworks in English, but also learned to express their opinions and value others’ creations—making language learning more meaningful and connected to real-life experiences.
